Why Men's Health Is Important

Men are known to be more muscular, and robust beings often get too relaxed when it comes to the detection and prevention of disease. They pay less attention to health compared to women. Studies show that men aren't as healthy as women. Women outlive guys by five years.

Drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco is a lot more common to men that contribute to damaging their bodies. As they are stronger and tend not to worry too much about health, they make risky choices, and usually, without women's reminder, men tend not to see a doctor for regular checkups.

Prostate cancer and benign prostate enlargement are unique issues to men. Heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and depression are some of the common illnesses that also plagued men.

Men have a greater risk of heart attack compared to women, that's according to the American Heart Association. Men also lead the rank for cancer rates more than for women, with cancers of the lung, prostate, and colon.

Getting yourself checked is vital to keep track of your numbers. These evaluate your health and tell you about your health status.

Some physical conditions can develop anxiety conditions, like an overactive thyroid. That is why it is very important to see a doctor to be assessed if there are medical cause for your feelings of anxiety.

Physical health problems are one of the risks in men's anxiety and depression. Chronic physical illness also contributes to anxiety conditions or impact on the treatment of either the anxiety or the physical illness itself.

Make Your First Move

Health risks that strike men can be prevented with a healthy lifestyle. That may include regular exercise, a healthy diet, not smoking at all, and alcohol consumption in the moderate range. Reducing stress contributes a lot to this as well.

Prevention is better than cure, as they say. Treating diseases at an early stage is a lot less risky. Men should get recommended screenings for blood cholesterol, blood pressure, colorectal cancer, diabetes, and prostate cancer tests. Get a recommendation from your doctor, and tests should be based on your age and other health factors.

You can start by putting down the remote control and get up off the couch as your first step in getting a moderate physical activity. A 30-minute run a day is not bad at all. Other activities to get moving that include taking a brisk walk, riding your bike, or enjoying a team sport is also fun. Teaming up with a buddy makes completing exercises or games even better.

Other than getting your body active, it would help if you also watched what you eat. Eat a healthy diet by increasing fruits and vegetable intake, whole grains, and choose fat-free and low-fat food.

Get an annual flu shot and check with your health care provider about other vaccines or preventive medicine you may need. Not to mention, listen to your mother or partner when they ask you to see a doctor.
